May 29 The Brimfield Contest......And the winner is.......!At Brimfield there are SO many bargains to be had, that Josef, Mark, and I decided to have a friendly little contest...... Buy ONE item, that is between $8-$12, and sell it on Ebay. The person with the highest ending price would be awarded all proceeds above the original price of the item. Here are the results! Josef - Ice cream scoop $30.99 Mark - Syroco Pipe Rest $5.50 ( I think he actually lost money on this...) Tommy - Anri Stopper $31.00 It's nice to win once in a while......! May 25 Clowning aroundWhile at Brimfield I met Barry Taylor. Hi Barry! We ran into each other practically every day and exchanged stories, or got to show off the latest finds. Well, I was able to strike a trade with him. Here is what I got! My first Painted Clown. Who knows how long he will last, as I've been receiving offers daily from one collector in particular. Guess who? (jsfeo) I am looking for another, so if you have one..... Please drop me a line at Syrocokid@gmail.com May 24 Meet the family! My parents are in town for the weekend to attend a wedding. NO NOT MINE! I will be making several trips north to visit with them all weekend long. I hope I can still get some Ebay time in. Well, I guess since Josef is out for the weekend too, I should have plenty of BIN's to snap up. Well, since this blog is about corkscrews........ I'm talking about my Ross Pigs! I finally have all 5 colors + one in package. Now if I can only get my hands on that aluminum one 2 states over..... May 23 Modern is still VERY COOL!Yes, we are all addicts of antique corkscrews, but there are some very COOL and DESIRABLE ones out there! I just picked up this modern design of the Thomason last night! I also received in the mail a fantastic condition Vulcan corkscrew (also a modern Thomason design). This baby is PERFECT and in it's original box! Be sure to get your trade offers in before Josef, as he is pretty hot for this baby! May 22 A very busy week so far!Goodness, this week has been very full! I posted 38 items this week on ebay and I feel like I've bought an equal amount.... Sunday I think I snapped up 6 BIN's! No I didn't ask for them all, just 2 of them. They included a Perfect Lazy thongs and lot, a flash, a anri monk stopper/corkscrew, a FAKE SYROCO HORSE HEAD CORKSCREW, and a Davis Patent w/knife. The Mail man is definitely on top of things this week. I'd say most of this stuff has arrived already! p.s. I just pulled the trigger on a modern spring/coil Thomason! Considering the last one sold for over $200, I figure 50% off is a good deal! Wrapping up BrimfieldOk! Seriously.....Gotta get back on track. Brimfield was great! It's SO BIG!!! Here are pics of my catch, a cool Jockey Scale(this would not fit in the car, so I left it @ Brimfield), Mark and Josef, and Andre in his van! I can hardly wait till my next adventure to Brimfield! Has anyone seen my Cannon SD600 battery charger?! Not that I need one anymore, as I popped for the $40 replacement! I feel your pain Josef! May 14 Sorry....Day 2 already!Brimfield is AWSOME!! I never thought it would be as big as it actually is! It's been a whirlwind of a trip so far. Many corkscrews have been discovered and several picked up so far. Josef, Mark and I have all had a good time. We also got to meet several other corkscrew collectors along the way. Berry T., Andre B., Mike G. to name a few. We are all still hoping to find the booth with a $5 Golden Knight and a $10 Power Cone. Wish us luck tomorrow as it's the last day that "new" dealers will arrive.
Though there has only been one flash discovered at the fair, I struck a trade deal for my first Painted Syroco Clown! It will certainly be a welcome addition to the collection, but offers of trade are already being considered. It might be gone before I even have a chance to use it! But, I would like to have a U-Neek again..... May 12 Finally in Mass!Well, it was a total of 17+ hours driving to Josef's house. I did stop off at two antique malls. I did pick up one Flash for a bargain price of $1.95! We had a very nice homemade dinner, with great company. It's definitatly time for bed as I only have 5 hours before we leave for Brimfield. This is how I see things right now:
Twas the night before Brimfield and all through the house, Josef, Mark, and Tommy Were ready to pounce!
They all had hopes of finding their prize, While scheming the dealers with little white lies
We woke up at 1 to start driving early Each of us betting, “Who’ll find a Curley?”
They opened the fields and we all started running Mark yelled “Look Tommy! Look Josef! A $5 Cummings!”
Josef picked up a Strait and Twigg While Tommy paid full price for his $10 Pig
We all filled our bags with corkscrews a bunch, We needed a break for stories and lunch!
The treasures were awesome and corkscrews a plenty, Don got his blue pig for only a penny!
Though there’s no snow or Santa’s to enhance the fun, It certainly seemed like Christmas, at least for some! May 08 5 Days to go!Only 5 days to go and lots to do! Packing, Ebaying, Packing, Shipping, more packing! I spent about 3 hours shipping packages this morning from this weeks ebay sales. Goodness! I wish these people would offer to pay cash and do a local pick up. As the rumors fly, Josef should have plenty of goodies to pillage in coming days. He got another Krueger! He did pay dearly for his first one he got from me, but now he has an extra. RAT! I'm sure I'll pay dearly for it...... Or maybe a round of "friendly" golf will offer an opportunity to get one back. I wonder what I can get from him with my latest delivery.... May 02 Flash Update! Well the totals are in! I'm at 164 original Flashes and have 18
doubles, for a grand total of 182! Not bad for starting 6 months ago.
I must thank Josef for the 16 received in trade :-) two weeks ago. Brimfield is coming up quick, with only 10 days to go. I look forward to finding many treasures as this will be my first trip to the fields. Dreams of finding a red devil head for $8 and Power Cones for $10 (NIB of course), and my very own $5 Golden Knight story, consume my sleepless nights. This could be like xmas for me! Maybe I will pack an extra stocking to hang in Josef's new kitchen, so the corkscrew gods can stuff it with various Flashes, Ross piggies, and maybe a Tramp.... I've started to arrange my travel plans and looking at a 15 hour ride to Josef's house. I better start loading up the ipod with new music, as I only have 94 songs loaded after 4 years! |
