April 28 NO WAY! Could it really be....?As a last minute going away gift a fellow collector gave me a Grape Vine Corkscrew and the worm was mangled to say the least. I was frantically trying to pack up all my goodies before check out time when I realized that I had forgotten to pack that last screw. As the Corkscrew gods have been good to me, I figured I must repay them with a act of good faith. I decided to "accidently" drop the screw under the table, and leave it for the staff to find. It is always exciting to find a hidden or lost treasure, especially when you lease expect it. I hope they will understand and enjoy the thrills that keep us collecting. Especially when they see the $90 price tag attached to the shaft. JFO Convention Day ThreeToday the convention was open to the public. I sold 3 wall mounts for Josef and sold 1 Horse head opener. The buying totally outweighed the selling this weekend. I was able to get a 1934 Chicago World fair M-73 - Slide opener w/ corkscrew. Very Sweet! I also bought a small Hollweg, ABC Beer Williamson Stag in box, a couple Williamson Beer Advertising screws, and one large box of Ebay goodies. I swear....Pics to come soon! Over all, a fun and collective weekend. I'm already hunting next years booty! JFO Convention Day Two....Goodness! Still bottle openers EVERYWHERE! Well yesterday was great. I'm sorry, still no pics yet :-( I'm happy to announce the newest member of my collection is DICO! That only took about 10 min to work out the trade. Another member is a Sterling overlay, Thiery and Croselmire. This one along with many others, a Black Ross Pig, rack and pinion, and Clough Double Helix were all aquired via a trade that took about 1 hour! I REALLY like trading! It's so fun to get what you want! Today is the last day of the convention for me as I'm flying out this afternoon. The Corkscrew Gods have been good to me, so I won't expect too much today. Maybe just a Blue Pig, a weird corkscrew with Royal Club on it, and a gold painted Knight figurine corkscrew. Am I asking too much? April 27 JFO Reports - First Day Part 2WOW! What a day. LOTS and LOTS of openers! I've been making friends fast and buying like crazy! I've picked up 2 L-1's and 5 M-3's and 1 M-1 bottle openers. Pics to come soon, as I forgot my cord, and I cannot figure out Marks camera. I also picked up 5 Beer advertising corkscrews. And the big splurge was a Coffin Man with original papers AND he came with a custom wooden coffin!! The wood coffin just makes it that much more desirable, as they did not originally come that way. Josef was very happy for me, but has been dreaming of it since last year when he passed it up, at the JFO 2006, for $450. Needless to say I did not pay nearly as much. More later. Let the Hunt Continue!! April 26 JFO Convention Reports....Well, I had not even left the airport in Harrisburg, Pa before I had bought my first corkscrew! An Stag screw with two Sterling caps! Josef is reporting great finds too as he is combing an antique fair about an hour away with Mark. Looks like the Corkscrew Gods are smiling on us this weekend! I will be reporting the play by play as great finds turn up. Pics to come later. Happy hunting everyone! April 25 My Space in My SpaceI was supposed to be featured on MTV's "Cribs", as I have one of two known Ross Pigs in Original Packaging, but when they heard I don't have a Blue Ross pig, they dropped me. Oh well....maybe one will turn up at the JFO? Well, Josef is the only person to have seen my collection and how it is displayed in my crib. So, without further a'due..... Tommy's Collection on display! I know it's not much, but it's not EVERYTHING either. I think I have a turtle hiding somewhere.... April 24 Late ArrivalCheck it out! Today I finally received the long awaited Barman in Box. I must say that it's in Very Good condition. The original box does have a tear in the side, but is still in great shape considering its age. The paint is flawless on the piece! Definitely a keeper. I got this thing for Gemelli patents. I guess I'm just a figural type of guy, considering my favorite types are Syroco pieces, Gemelli types, and Ross Piggies. I hope to find some others this weekend at the JFO. So, if you're going to be there.....hint, hint.....Bring some goodies for me! April 17 Feathery FriendI'm very excited to welcome my new friend to "The Collection". It is a Feathered Negbaur Parrot. It is a desirable piece that I've been hunting for a long time and finally acquired. His pic is below. I tip my hat to Markdmg, as he recently out bid me on the Yellow Ross pig. If you're reading this...Bring it to the JFO!! I'm still looking to get a Red, Black, Yellow, Creme (out of package, as I have a creme in package - for the foreseeable future at least) and a Blue one if it exists. Anyone out there have one to sell or trade?!?!?!?! April 09 Oh SO FUNNY!!I just received a pretty cool opener in the mail today. It's a Syroco Laughing Man. He is featured in a much lighter stain (like wet pine color) unlike every other Stained Syroco I've seen, that is in their signature Dark Walnut stain. Has anyone else seen or have Syroco's in this color stain? He was also made with the tear drop opener, most commonly seen with the Syroco Elephant or Horse openers. It's a welcome addition to the collection, especially as it is now on Josef's radar! April 06 The latest arrivalsI've been bidding like crazy for the past few weeks. Thank goodness I only win about 3% of what I actually bid on. I have just received a Perille rack that is marked, a pair of ladies legs. I also got a Golf club corkscrew opener, but it did not survive the trip in one piece. :-(
I also jumped on as Old Codger and a Bartender Opener. Both are painted and in pristine condition, except the codger hat got chipped in transit!! I'm still bent, but it's really a nice piece. Nothing a little magic marker can't fix right? April 05 My first.....Well, I've only dreamed of acquiring a Carved Alligator. I've seen them on Ebay from time to time, and I've seen the ones that Josef has in his collection. They are SO cool. I got lucky last week and won an alligator on Ebay. It arrived as expected, but the sterling cap is pretty beat up. I still love it though! Does anyone know if you can easily replace a sterling cap? |
